What we do

Suspended or facing expulsion? Ask for the hearing.

A long suspension or an expulsion is a big decision, and your child has the right to a hearing before it’s final. We help you use it.

Schools move fast after an incident. We slow it down: we ask for the hearing, get the records and the statements, and make sure the decision-makers hear your child’s side.

If your child has an IEP or a 504 plan, or should have one, there are extra protections. A meeting may be required to decide whether the behavior was connected to a disability.

Call us quickly if

  • Your child was sent home for more than a few days

  • You received a letter about an expulsion hearing

  • Your child has an IEP or 504 plan and keeps being suspended

  • The school is sending your child to an alternative program

How we handle a discipline case

  1. 01

    We ask for the hearing

In writing, right away, so no deadline slips by.

  2. 02

    We get the file

Incident reports, statements, video if there is any.

  3. 03

We prepare you and your child

What to expect, what to say and what not to.

  4. 04

    We go with you

And push for your child to be back in class while it’s decided.

Discipline questions, answered plainly

Does my child have to speak at the hearing?

Not always. We decide together whether it helps, and if your child does speak, we prepare them first.

My child has an IEP. Does that change anything?

Yes. After a certain number of days out, the school must hold a meeting about whether the behavior was linked to the disability. That meeting can change the outcome.

Got a suspension letter this week?

Tell us what’s happening. The first call is free, and so is everything after it if you qualify.

A first call doesn’t make us your lawyers; a written agreement does.
